More about
Ossie Ardiles
Signed in the aftermath of Argentina’s 1978 World Cup triumph over the Netherlands, Ardiles arrived in the UK alongside international teammate Ricky Villa, causing a sensation. It didn’t take long for his dazzling performances on the pitch to prove that the hype surrounding him was fully deserved.
A diminutive playmaker with exceptional skill and vision, Ossie adapted seamlessly to the English game. His midfield partnership with Glenn Hoddle was pivotal in turning Tottenham into a formidable side, leading to a string of silverware.
Ardiles played a key role in Spurs’ FA Cup victories in 1981 and 1982 under Keith Burkinshaw’s management. Although the Falklands War led to a brief stint in exile with Paris Saint-Germain, he returned to White Hart Lane to contribute to the club’s UEFA Cup triumph in 1984.
