He began his professional career with Crewe Alexandra, where he spent four years and played over 120 matches for the club. In 1992, he joined Middlesbrough, making more than 150 appearances during his time there, as the club reached the FA Cup and League Cup finals during his tenure.
In 1998, Craig moved to Barnsley before signing for Blackburn Rovers in 2000 for a fee of over £2 million. At Blackburn, he secured a League Cup winners’ medal as part of the squad. After leaving the club in 2003, Craig had brief spells with Leicester City and Darlington before retiring from professional football in 2007.
Today, Craig is a popular figure on the after-dinner speaking circuit, sharing memorable stories and anecdotes from his career. His tales offer insight into the personalities he encountered throughout his journey – both the players he shared the pitch with and those he faced as rivals.
