Charlie Nicholas burst onto the football scene as a teenage sensation, making his debut for Celtic in a Glasgow Cup tie against Queen’s Park in August 1979. During his first spell with Celtic, he secured two Scottish League Championships and a Scottish League Cup. The 1982/83 season was particularly outstanding, as Charlie netted an incredible 50 goals across all competitions, earning him the titles of Scottish Footballer of the Year and Young Player of the Year.

In the summer of 1983, Charlie made the move to Arsenal, where he became a fan favourite. Over five seasons with the North London club, he made 184 appearances and scored 54 goals. His most memorable moment came in the 1987 League Cup Final when he scored both goals in a dramatic 2-1 victory over Liverpool.
After his time at Arsenal, Charlie returned to Scotland in January 1988, joining Aberdeen. During his tenure with ‘The Dons,’ he played 75 matches, scored 30 goals, and won the Scottish League Cup in 1989 and the Scottish Cup in 1990.
In July 1990, Charlie rejoined Celtic, where he further cemented his legacy. By the time he retired, he had made a total of 236 appearances for the club, scoring an impressive 124 goals. He added another Scottish Cup to his collection in 1995, concluding a remarkable career at his boyhood team.
On the international stage, Charlie earned 20 caps for Scotland, scoring five goals. He proudly represented his country at the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, showcasing his talent on football’s biggest stage.
