Jeff Thompson

One of the fastest bowlers to have played Test cricket.

With his distinctive slinging action and aggressive approach, Jeff Thomson was a fearsome sight to opposing batsmen. He made his Test debut against Pakistan in the 1972-73 series, though a broken bone in his foot hindered his performance. However, after being recalled in 1974-75, he formed a deadly partnership with Dennis Lillee, terrorising the England team with relentless fast bowling, taking an impressive 33 wickets in the series.

More about

Jeff Thompson

The strain on his body from his action, particularly his right shoulder, meant Jeff was rarely able to sustain such high levels of pace throughout his career. As a result, he adapted his bowling style, relying less on sheer speed and more on an outstanding cutter, along with exceptional seam and swing movement. Jeff retired from playing in 1986.

Today, whenever Jeff visits the UK, he is in high demand on the after-dinner speaking circuit, regularly entertaining cricket club dinners and corporate events with his stories and insights from a distinguished career.
