Rodney Hogg

Played club cricket for South Australlia and Victoria, and test cricket for Australlia.

Rodney Hogg was a fiery bowler who made a sensational entry into Test cricket. Selected for the 1978/79 Ashes series, he used his pace to devastating effect, taking 41 wickets in six Tests at an astonishing average of 12.85. This remains an Australian record that is unlikely to be surpassed. Hogg was hailed as Australia’s great find in a series largely dominated by England.

Rodney Hogg

Rodney played in 38 Tests and served as vice-captain to Allan Border for one year. A back injury, however, curtailed what could have been a longer career. His final Test was against the West Indies at Melbourne in 1985. In his Test career, he took 123 wickets at an average of 28.47, while in One-Day Internationals, he claimed 85 wickets at an average of 28.44.

After retiring from international cricket, Rodney enjoyed a varied career, including five years coaching at district level, ten years working at Australian sports camps, two years as a commentator for C7 Television, and one year as a strategy and fast bowling coach for Victoria Cricket.

Rodney regularly visits the UK for after-dinner speaking engagements, sharing captivating stories from his international cricket career, including tales from the “500 to 1” match, the aluminium bat incident, the 43 cans, and the infamous under-arm delivery.
