Graham Gooch OBE

Probably the greatest player in the history of Essex cricket.

Representing his county for an impressive 25 seasons, Graham amassed 128 first-class centuries and played a pivotal role in securing six County Championships and numerous one-day trophies. Renowned as a world-class batsman, he was also a highly effective bowler and an outstanding slip fielder.

Graham’s England career spanned two decades, during which he scored an incredible 8,900 runs in 118 Test matches and captained the team on 34 occasions. One of his most memorable performances came at Lord’s against India, where he scored a remarkable 333 runs in the first innings, facing 485 deliveries and hitting 43 fours and 3 sixes. In the second innings, he added another 123 runs, setting the record for the highest aggregate score in a single Test match.

Graham retired from Test cricket at the age of 42 but continues to contribute to the national team as a batting coach. He is also a highly sought-after after-dinner speaker, captivating audiences with fascinating cricketing stories from his legendary career.
